1. Contact our elected officials. A letter on paper is most likely to be read. A fax An email or a phone call. This is an election year for Houston. If you have contributed money, mention that. Contact info for Mayor and City Council.
2. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Let them know that they do not have to take it anymore, that there are many people working on behalf of urban homeowners and the future of Houston. Send them this link and encourage them to sign up to receive emails. 3. Get media attention. Write the Chronicle - they are doing a great job of covering the problems facing urban neighborhoods. Don't forget the weekly, neighborhood papers. Call TV stations and ask to speak to the assignemtns editor. 4. Get your neighborhood organization involved. It is a goal of Save the Bungalows to help create a coalition of urban civic and neighborhood groups, so send the contact info for your group to us.
5. Stay alert - builders often break the law. It takes vigilance to insure that builders follow the law and any existing deed restrictions. If you have doubts about the legality of anything a builder may be doing, from building placement to tree removal, call 311, the City of Houston Information phone number. Then call your district council member. Enforcement happens when we MAKE IT happen. | |
